When she was initially inspired from the shadows that she observed on the grass of trees, she worked for months in developing a process that didn't depict an object as a two-dimensional image. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. This works best when working with living things as well as items that have a shelf life like people or fruits. Her ephemeral art style is apparent and what survives in Alexa Meade's works is a photographic image. The painting and photography techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain parts of the image like hair and eyes, reveal the third dimension. Meade has also integrated her models painted by Meade into the 3D space that surrounds the models. Interaction between them and this created world can be achieved. In this way, she blurs the lines between photography, painting performance and installation.
