Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian singer-songwriter. There are more than 20 albums that were released by her. Her songs are classified by the label as folk and alternative rock. However, they also are influenced by hip-hop music, jazz and punk. Ani DiFranco is widely recognized as a feminist icon, and Grammy-winning artist is considered to be the first founder of DIY music. It was one of the first artists to start their own labels in the year 90. DiFranco was born on the 23rd of September 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who was introduced to Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian heritage and her mother came originally from Montreal. The song by Ani, 32 Flavors was composed by her and sung by Ani. This song appears on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. Another version of the song is featured on the movie soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013, following the revelation that it became clear that she'd set up a three-day workshop on a Louisiana plantation. It was postponed, but many (including the media) did not think it was a sign of regret. DiFranco offered a second apology days later. While she's been referred to for her role as the Little Folksinger, her music has embraced many genres and collaborators ranging across the spectrum from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince.
